This is a compilation of what I managed to find regarding the USB Power Sources without LED displays, arguably the cheapest option for allowing a 5V usb charging cable for a phone or night lightbulb. Links can be found at the bottom.

There are 3 types, characterized by the inductor style and we recommend the 4R7 because of the reverse polarity diode, which means the USB charger will not break when the input is accidently switched, instead just not running.

The 3 types are:

Inductor 4R7 with tiny ceramic capacitors

  • 6-24 V input
  • 15 W max output (if max, needs heat dissipation)
  • 5.1-5.2 V output
  • Features:
    • Output indicator
    • Output over-voltage and short circuit protection
    • Input reverse polarity diode

Exposed Inductor

  • 6-32 V input
  • 24 W max output
  • 3-12 V output (5 V standard output, changed with communication from USB)
  • Features:
    • Fast charge mode when communicating with a phone
    • Possibly more, only on Alibaba
