LITHIUM ION PO4 BATTERIES : AS A BIG BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR AFRICA AND ISEC VENTURES
In Africa, we mainly meet and use lead acid batteries imported from China ; these batteries are expensive and are not lasting longer.
But today in most countries in Africa, we can use another model of batteries named Lithium phosphate ion PO4 batteries.
Lithium ion phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) operate ten times longer than lead-acid, resulting in fewer costs per kilowatt-hour. For example, Super B lithium batteries can reach 5000 cycles or more. Lead-acid batteries deliver only up to 500 cycles, as higher levels of discharge reduce their cycle life.
Ion lithium batteries have a very low self-discharge rate. Compared to lead-acid this is 10 times lower.
For an african continent where people mainly live in the darkness and use expensive cooking fuels such as LPG gas, firewood or charcoal, we think it’s useful to mix up the use of ISEC cookers with Lithium ion batteries ; presently in Cameroon, we are in the rainy season with heavy rains everyday ; to cook with ISEC during cloudy and rainy days , we can connect our ISEC cookers to lithium ion batteries and cook food with .
**In ISEC CAMEROON we are about to collaborate with Mr Robert Van Buskir in designing Lithium Titanate Oxide batteries ( LTO ) ** ; this new program will help us to target new ISEC clients in our local community as we may offer them our locally designed lithium batteries along with ISEC kits, with an option for them to our solution for cooking ad light.
Presently , only two traders are reselling imported lithium batteries in Yaounde , with prices ranging from 250 USD per lithium battery of 100ah / 12V to 500 USD per lithium battery of 150ah /12V.
In order to test our ISEC kits with this lithium battery technology , we’ve just purchased a 100ah Lithium ion PO4.
We believe, the idea proposed by Pete, to encourage the design of batteries and solar panels in Africa, is a revolutionary challenge.
